Let the Games Begin. Shop Winter Olympics 2026

At Lilliput Play Homes, we believe imagination is not just for kids. It fuels our designs, our craftsmanship, and occasionally… our company meetings.

This winter, our team gathered for a spirited and slightly competitive Winter Olympics-themed showdown. Four teams entered. Only one would take home ultimate bragging rights, along with a coveted gold medal to relish.

From makeshift hockey arenas to rolling-caster curling lanes, the creativity did not disappoint.

🏒 Event 1: Shop Floor Hockey

The shop transformed into a high-stakes hockey shoot out – minus the ice and plus a lot of laughter.

Using a makeshift goal and home made sticks, teams went shot for shot in a fast-paced showdown that required precision to bring home the goal, and gold.

The scoring was tight, the defense intense, and the celebrations dramatic. There may not have been skates involved, but the competitive spirit was absolutely Olympic level.

🥌 Event 2: Dolly Curling

Next up – curling, Lilliput style.

Instead of stones gliding across ice, teams strategically rolled moving casters toward a carefully marked target. This event required steady hands and knowledge of the concrete floors.

Some teams mastered the gentle glide. Others discovered that momentum is a powerful thing.

The shop floor has never seen such focused gliding – or such dramatic reactions to a near-perfect shot.

⛸ Event 3: The Triple Toe Finale

Every great Winter Olympics needs a grand finale. Enter: The Triple Toe.

This figure skating-inspired finale challenged teams to impromptu perform their own routines. Style points were absolutely part of the scoring.

There were spins.
There were poses.
There were ambitious jumps that may or may not have defied physics.

Judging considered creativity, crowd engagement, and overall theatrical flair. It was equal parts athleticism and pure entertainment – and it brought the house down.

And the Gold Goes To…

With an impressive 33 points, Team Cotton Candy claimed the Lilliput-lympics championship title, and the custom made gold medals. Marsh Mallows followed closely behind with 28 points, making it a competitive race to the podium.

Sassafras and Raskals may not have topped the scoreboard this year, but their energy, creativity, and sportsmanship made every event unforgettable.

More Than Just Games

While the hockey goals and caster curling were unforgettable, what truly stood out was the reminder of who we are as a team.

At Lilliput, we build imaginative environments for children every day. Taking time to laugh, compete, and collaborate reminds us that imagination does not stop at the workshop door.

The Lilliput-lympics were more than a meeting activity. They were a celebration of creativity, teamwork, and the playful spirit that drives everything we do.

    • A 4,000 sq ft indoor playground and café blending purposeful play, STEM exhibits, and a pretend mini-town. It is designed as a community-focused model for active, developmental play.

Canada – Accessible, inclusive indoor play

  • Beyond Play – Barrie, Ontario.
    • Beyond Play KidzTown & Sensory Cove launched as an inclusive kid-sized town with a sensory cove and café area. This terrific regional hub features playhouses, sensory spaces, and STEM activity zones.

Christmas Playhouse Traditions and Family Memories

We recently were delighted to receive an email from a client who purchased a playhouse for her family many years ago. She recalled joyful memories, such as having a picture of her daughter standing next to the big Lilliput truck as the playhouse was being delivered, and how “her brothers were so so envious of her house!” Since then, she was happy to report to us that her playhouse was in “excellent condition,” however, she wanted a new part for her door and doorbell.

But what she told us next, really warmed our hearts. She continued recounting how, even today, the playhouse brings special meaning to her family on the holidays. She wrote to us:

My husband loves Christmas and always puts white twinkling lights around all of the trees and shrubs in our yard. This past Christmas was exceptionally bitter. He had everything done except for Meaghan’s [play]house. I told him not to bother… [but he] became upset and insisted that he finish putting lights on her house. He wanted to have everything as it always was, so when her car turned onto our street, she would see the twinkling lights on her playhouse, welcoming her home for Christmas.

Her recollection made us smile, and caused us to slow down and reflect on the magic our work can bring to families. In addition to her Christmas memory, her letter went on to recall other moments enjoyed by her daughter with her playhouse. She continued:

Many hours of Meaghan’s childhood were spent inside her house. I eventually found a white cast iron bistro set to fit inside her playhouse where she and her best friend and their American Girl dolls would have tea parties. The only thing our daughter never did was sleep in her house, so many times the sleeping bags were all set up [along with] flashlights, snacks etc. The girls would be in the playhouse until about 11:00pm and then [eventually run] back inside the house!

She also shared a more recent memory:

At Meaghan’s graduation party last summer, she and her friends went into her house after all the other guests left and talked for hours. [I] know there was laughter, but also tears… childhood days were ending. They all knew things would never be the same again, yet they didn’t want to let go of those happy memories of carefree times.

Notes like these help us consider the purpose of our work; to not only craft beautiful children’s play structures, but also to create special moments and traditions that will always be remembered. At Lilliput Play Homes we spend our days building miniature worlds for imaginary play. But the truth is, that families are the ones who bring them to life!

Halloween may be over, but at Lilliput Play Homes, we know that imaginative play doesn’t stop when the candy runs out! This week, our feed is filled with little heroes and helpers – children dressed up as the everyday professionals who keep our communities running. From firefighters to veterinarians, each costume is more than just dress-up – it’s a doorway into learning, empathy, and creativity.

Mail Carrier

Our tiny postal carriers are busy making “special deliveries” to their friends and family! Pretending to sort, stamp, and deliver mail helps children develop sequencing, organization, and fine motor skills. It also teaches responsibility and the joy of connecting with others through communication.

Veterinarian

Play Cafés Build Community

Play cafés are rapidly becoming a favorite business model for entrepreneurs looking to combine family-friendly fun with a welcoming community space. These unique destinations bring together the best of two worlds: a cozy café environment for parents and an engaging, imaginative play space for children. The result? A business that quickly becomes a beloved hub for families in the community.

Why Play Cafés Work

Families are always searching for places where kids can safely play while adults enjoy a little downtime. Play cafés answer that need perfectly. With well-designed play areas and quality food and beverage offerings, these businesses encourage families to stay longer, return often, and spread the word to friends. They create loyalty—not just to a space, but to the experience.

According to Rebecca Kopp, a designer, mom, and advocate for family-centered living, the “overall play café ‘trend’ has been on the rise (in the USA) for the past 15 years,” and it continues to grow. You can read more about that here. What began in the 1970’s with venues such as McDonald’s Play Places and Chuck E. Cheese, which blended play and dining, has evolved into the new play café concept.  The newer business models combine a curated play environment with specialty coffee and food offerings to supply comfort for parents, and developmental opportunities for their children.

Main Street Play and Café in Broadview Hights Ohio, refers to themselves as a “boutique indoor play space and café.    They invite guests to “meet up on Main Street” as children are free to explore a number of themed play houses arranged in a main street setting. The area is designed to enable children to learn through play and supplies café offerings such as a kid’s charcuterie board as well as latte’s and cold-pressed juices.  

In Oregon, at Happy Play Café, a bright and inviting open layout enables parents to sip on a delicious drink, while they watch their children imagine and explore a “mini town,” and climb a natural cedar play structure.

The concept has also spread into European cities. Bambini City in Hamburg Germany includes a delightful tiny town including a Market, Hair Salon, Service Station and Police station, as well as a full service café.

Play Cafes are considered part of the $30 billion “family entertainment center” (FEC) industry.  With a compound annual growth rate of 10%, this market is driven by rising disposable incomes, a preference for family-oriented leisure activities and it is bolstered by experiential spending trends.  Find some interesting statistics about the industry here!

Play Cafés have great consumer appeal and can result in a lucrative business venture.  They act as a community center with controlled age-appropriate activities for children and a respite for adults to relax, or socialize with other parents.  The intimate nature of these spaces allows parents to keep an eye on their children at all times, providing a sense of security and safety.

Contest Win – How Do You AraucoPly?

We at Lilliput Play Homes are honored to have been selected as the winners of this quarters “How Do You AraucoPly?” contest! We are proud to have used Arauco’s products to create this lovely show stopper.

This unique, handcrafted piece was built using AraucoPly® Sanded plywood for the boat’s deck, which was CNC-routed to resemble real wooden planks and finished in a rich stain. The boat’s walls combine plywood and PVC, faux-finished by their artisans to reflect a historic, “biblical” look that ties into the space’s theme.

It’s a beautiful example of creative craftsmanship and the incredible versatility of AraucoPly®.
