Let the Games Begin. Shop Winter Olympics 2026

At Lilliput Play Homes, we believe imagination is not just for kids. It fuels our designs, our craftsmanship, and occasionally… our company meetings.

This winter, our team gathered for a spirited and slightly competitive Winter Olympics-themed showdown. Four teams entered. Only one would take home ultimate bragging rights, along with a coveted gold medal to relish.

From makeshift hockey arenas to rolling-caster curling lanes, the creativity did not disappoint.

🏒 Event 1: Shop Floor Hockey

The shop transformed into a high-stakes hockey shoot out – minus the ice and plus a lot of laughter.

Using a makeshift goal and home made sticks, teams went shot for shot in a fast-paced showdown that required precision to bring home the goal, and gold.

The scoring was tight, the defense intense, and the celebrations dramatic. There may not have been skates involved, but the competitive spirit was absolutely Olympic level.

🥌 Event 2: Dolly Curling

Next up – curling, Lilliput style.

Instead of stones gliding across ice, teams strategically rolled moving casters toward a carefully marked target. This event required steady hands and knowledge of the concrete floors.

Some teams mastered the gentle glide. Others discovered that momentum is a powerful thing.

The shop floor has never seen such focused gliding – or such dramatic reactions to a near-perfect shot.

⛸ Event 3: The Triple Toe Finale

Every great Winter Olympics needs a grand finale. Enter: The Triple Toe.

This figure skating-inspired finale challenged teams to impromptu perform their own routines. Style points were absolutely part of the scoring.

There were spins.
There were poses.
There were ambitious jumps that may or may not have defied physics.

Judging considered creativity, crowd engagement, and overall theatrical flair. It was equal parts athleticism and pure entertainment – and it brought the house down.

And the Gold Goes To…

With an impressive 33 points, Team Cotton Candy claimed the Lilliput-lympics championship title, and the custom made gold medals. Marsh Mallows followed closely behind with 28 points, making it a competitive race to the podium.

Sassafras and Raskals may not have topped the scoreboard this year, but their energy, creativity, and sportsmanship made every event unforgettable.

More Than Just Games

While the hockey goals and caster curling were unforgettable, what truly stood out was the reminder of who we are as a team.

At Lilliput, we build imaginative environments for children every day. Taking time to laugh, compete, and collaborate reminds us that imagination does not stop at the workshop door.

The Lilliput-lympics were more than a meeting activity. They were a celebration of creativity, teamwork, and the playful spirit that drives everything we do.

Until next winter… the training begins now. 🏆

Christmas Playhouse Traditions and Family Memories

We recently were delighted to receive an email from a client who purchased a playhouse for her family many years ago. She recalled joyful memories, such as having a picture of her daughter standing next to the big Lilliput truck as the playhouse was being delivered, and how “her brothers were so so envious of her house!” Since then, she was happy to report to us that her playhouse was in “excellent condition,” however, she wanted a new part for her door and doorbell.

But what she told us next, really warmed our hearts. She continued recounting how, even today, the playhouse brings special meaning to her family on the holidays. She wrote to us:

My husband loves Christmas and always puts white twinkling lights around all of the trees and shrubs in our yard. This past Christmas was exceptionally bitter. He had everything done except for Meaghan’s [play]house. I told him not to bother… [but he] became upset and insisted that he finish putting lights on her house. He wanted to have everything as it always was, so when her car turned onto our street, she would see the twinkling lights on her playhouse, welcoming her home for Christmas.

Her recollection made us smile, and caused us to slow down and reflect on the magic our work can bring to families. In addition to her Christmas memory, her letter went on to recall other moments enjoyed by her daughter with her playhouse. She continued:

Many hours of Meaghan’s childhood were spent inside her house. I eventually found a white cast iron bistro set to fit inside her playhouse where she and her best friend and their American Girl dolls would have tea parties. The only thing our daughter never did was sleep in her house, so many times the sleeping bags were all set up [along with] flashlights, snacks etc. The girls would be in the playhouse until about 11:00pm and then [eventually run] back inside the house!

She also shared a more recent memory:

At Meaghan’s graduation party last summer, she and her friends went into her house after all the other guests left and talked for hours. [I] know there was laughter, but also tears… childhood days were ending. They all knew things would never be the same again, yet they didn’t want to let go of those happy memories of carefree times.

Notes like these help us consider the purpose of our work; to not only craft beautiful children’s play structures, but also to create special moments and traditions that will always be remembered. At Lilliput Play Homes we spend our days building miniature worlds for imaginary play. But the truth is, that families are the ones who bring them to life!

Thank you to all those who have allowed Lilliput create childhood memories. We are incredibly honored to be able to play a part in so many special family traditions.

After the Costumes: Pretend Play Sparks Real-Life Skills

Halloween may be over, but at Lilliput Play Homes, we know that imaginative play doesn’t stop when the candy runs out! This week, our feed is filled with little heroes and helpers – children dressed up as the everyday professionals who keep our communities running. From firefighters to veterinarians, each costume is more than just dress-up – it’s a doorway into learning, empathy, and creativity.

Here’s a look at some of our favorite post-Halloween play moments and the developmental benefits behind each pretend profession:

Mail Carrier

Our tiny postal carriers are busy making “special deliveries” to their friends and family! Pretending to sort, stamp, and deliver mail helps children develop sequencing, organization, and fine motor skills. It also teaches responsibility and the joy of connecting with others through communication.

👉 Check out this adorable Mail Carrier Costume by Lakeshore Learning for your little delivery helper.

Main Street Post Office

A young child in a blue apron stands at a play post office station, holding mail with drawers, a sign, and baskets visible around them.

Firefighter

Every child loves the excitement of being a firefighter! From “putting out fires” to helping others in need, this type of imaginative play builds courage, teamwork, and compassion. It also encourages physical activity and coordination through all that active, heroic play.

👉 This Firefighter Dress-Up Set by Melissa & Doug is perfect for their next rescue mission.

Main Street Fire Station

Police Officer

Dressing up as a police officer allows kids to explore the ideas of fairness, safety, and community service. Through role play, they practice problem-solving, empathy, and confidence in leadership – important skills for navigating real-life situations.

👉 We love this Police Officer Costume from Melissa & Doug.

Main Street Police Station

Construction Worker

Little builders love to plan, design, and create. Whether stacking blocks or “repairing” their playhouses, they’re engaging in early STEM learning—exploring balance, structure, and problem-solving. It’s hands-on creativity that sparks innovation.

Main Street Heavy-Duty Construction Site

Veterinarian

Our young vets show kindness and care as they tend to their stuffed animal patients. Pretend play in this role nurtures empathy, emotional intelligence, and an understanding of responsibility for living things. Plus, it’s a great way to explore early science concepts about animals and health.

👉 This Vet Role Play Costume is a great way to bring their love for animals to life.

Main Street Animal Hospital

Diner Cook

Cooking up “pancakes” and “burgers” at the play diner encourages social play, cooperation, and language development. Children practice sequencing (taking orders, preparing food, serving), while exploring creativity through pretend recipes and menus.

Ice Cream Server

There’s nothing sweeter than a child running an imaginary ice cream truck! Serving up scoops teaches math skills like counting and making change, while also encouraging sharing, communication, and imagination in storytelling play.

At Lilliput Play Homes, we believe that imaginative play helps children build the skills they’ll use for a lifetime – creativity, empathy, and problem-solving. Whether it’s through dress-up, pretend professions, or life-sized playhouses, every moment of play is a step toward growth and discovery.

Play Cafés Build Community

Play cafés are rapidly becoming a favorite business model for entrepreneurs looking to combine family-friendly fun with a welcoming community space. These unique destinations bring together the best of two worlds: a cozy café environment for parents and an engaging, imaginative play space for children. The result? A business that quickly becomes a beloved hub for families in the community.

Why Play Cafés Work

Families are always searching for places where kids can safely play while adults enjoy a little downtime. Play cafés answer that need perfectly. With well-designed play areas and quality food and beverage offerings, these businesses encourage families to stay longer, return often, and spread the word to friends. They create loyalty—not just to a space, but to the experience.

According to Rebecca Kopp, a designer, mom, and advocate for family-centered living, the “overall play café ‘trend’ has been on the rise (in the USA) for the past 15 years,” and it continues to grow. You can read more about that here. What began in the 1970’s with venues such as McDonald’s Play Places and Chuck E. Cheese, which blended play and dining, has evolved into the new play café concept.  The newer business models combine a curated play environment with specialty coffee and food offerings to supply comfort for parents, and developmental opportunities for their children.

Play Cafés We Have Worked With

Main Street Play and Café in Broadview Hights Ohio, refers to themselves as a “boutique indoor play space and café.    They invite guests to “meet up on Main Street” as children are free to explore a number of themed play houses arranged in a main street setting. The area is designed to enable children to learn through play and supplies café offerings such as a kid’s charcuterie board as well as latte’s and cold-pressed juices.

In Oregon, at Happy Play Café, a bright and inviting open layout enables parents to sip on a delicious drink, while they watch their children imagine and explore a “mini town,” and climb a natural cedar play structure.

The concept has also spread into European cities. Bambini City in Hamburg Germany includes a delightful tiny town including a Market, Hair Salon, Service Station and Police station, as well as a full service café.

Play Cafes are considered part of the $30 billion “family entertainment center” (FEC) industry.  With a compound annual growth rate of 10%, this market is driven by rising disposable incomes, a preference for family-oriented leisure activities and it is bolstered by experiential spending trends.  Find some interesting statistics about the industry here!

Play Cafés have great consumer appeal and can result in a lucrative business venture.  They act as a community center with controlled age-appropriate activities for children and a respite for adults to relax, or socialize with other parents.  The intimate nature of these spaces allows parents to keep an eye on their children at all times, providing a sense of security and safety.

The play café concept provides a multitude of revenue streams for operators.  While daily entry fees are common, many businesses offer monthly or yearly memberships.  Café sales bring in other income, and birthday parties and special events can be a large source of earnings.  Some play café summer camps, music and art lessons, story time or parenting workshops.  These types of classes and workshops provide educational and enrichment experiences and attract a wider customer base and create additional revenue opportunities.

The Lilliput Advantage

At Lilliput Play Homes, we specialize in crafting custom, commercial-quality playhouses that elevate a play café from ordinary to extraordinary. Each playhouse is designed to capture a child’s imagination while fitting seamlessly into your brand and business vision. From realistic markets, fire stations, or bakeries, our playhouses create an immersive “main street” feel that sets your café apart.

A little girl pretending to check out at a play house themed as a café, with blue and white awnings and flower boxes in the front. There are custom child sized furniture, and toys throughout the playhouse.

What makes our playhouses perfect for play cafés?

  • Child-sized Furniture: Custom pieces built to reflect each theme, and hold up for commercial use.
  • Durability: Built to withstand daily, high-volume use.
  • Customization: Tailored to reflect your café’s theme, brand colors, and layout.
  • Engagement: Encourages children to interact, role-play, and return again and again.
  • Visual Appeal: Instagram-worthy design that parents love to share, boosting organic marketing.

Driving Community — and Your Business

Every interaction inside a Lilliput playhouse helps foster connections. Children make friends while role-playing, and parents naturally connect while watching their kids play. This community-building effect keeps families coming back and positions your café as more than just a business—it becomes a trusted gathering place where memories are made.

From a business standpoint, these repeat visits and strong word-of-mouth referrals directly impact your bottom line. A thoughtfully designed play space not only drives customer satisfaction but also increases dwell time, secondary purchases, and overall revenue.

Using 3D Renderings to Bring Your Vision to Life

At Lilliput Play Homes Inc., we believe that creating the perfect playhouse for your child or business should be an exciting, interactive experience. That’s why we’ve embraced cutting-edge technology, like SketchUp, to help bring your playhouse ideas to life through detailed and realistic 3D renderings. Whether you’re looking for a classic playhouse or a fully customized dream design, our SketchUp-powered visualizations allow you to see every detail before the construction even begins.

Here’s how we’re revolutionizing the playhouse experience for our customers and why you’ll love the process!

A rendering of a small white play house with a front porch, flower boxes under the windows, an upper balcony, and a wooden swing on the side.

What is SketchUp?

For those unfamiliar with it, SketchUp is an intuitive, user-friendly 3D modeling software that allows designers and builders to create detailed, accurate representations of architectural and product designs. It’s used across a variety of industries, from architecture to interior design, to create models that allow users to visualize their ideas in a realistic, tangible way.

At Lilliput Play Homes, we’ve adopted SketchUp as a tool for designing and visualizing our custom playhouses. This software enables us to transform your vision into a 3D model, ensuring that you can see exactly how your playhouse will look in your space before construction begins.

Why 3D Renderings are a Game-Changer

Custom Designs, Tailored to You
At Lilliput Play Homes, we understand that every customer has a unique vision for their playhouse. Whether you’re looking for a storybook castle, a play village, or something more modern, our team works with you to create the perfect design. With SketchUp, we can quickly make adjustments, from color changes to layout modifications, ensuring that the playhouse meets your exact specifications.
Instead of relying on sketches or flat images, 3D renderings allow you to see the playhouse from every angle. You’ll be able to envision how it fits into your outdoor or indoor space, helping you make decisions about size, placement, and features. It’s the ultimate way to ensure that your playhouse will match your dream design.

Interactive Experience for Better Decision-Making
Choosing a custom playhouse is a big decision, and we know that seeing the end result before making any commitments is important. With 3D renderings, we can fully interact with the model. Zoom in and out, rotate the design to see it from different perspectives, and explore how every element of the playhouse comes together. If you want to see the play houses in your space, or see how it looks with different color schemes, it’s all possible with SketchUp.
This interactive experience empowers you to make more informed decisions, ensuring that you’re completely satisfied with your design before we begin building. It’s a collaborative process that puts you in control and makes the entire experience feel more personal.

Visualizing Features and Customization Options
One of the most exciting things about designing with SketchUp is the ability to visualize all the little details that make your playhouse special. Want to add a balcony, a climbing wall, or customize the colors? With SketchUp, we can show you exactly where these features will be placed and how they’ll fit into the overall design.

Accurate Measurements and Fit
Understanding the scale and proportion of a playhouse is key, especially when it comes to fitting it into your desired space. Using SketchUp, we can provide you with accurate measurements and a realistic scale view of how the playhouse will fit into your yard or indoor space. This ensures that there are no surprises later on and that your playhouse will fit perfectly within your available space.
Additionally, 3D renderings allow you to measure distances between elements, so you can visualize how your complete project will look – indoors or outdoors.

Saving Time and Reducing Costs
By providing you with a clear visual representation of your playhouse before construction begins, SketchUp helps streamline the design and approval process. This eliminates the need for revisions during construction, reducing delays and ensuring that your playhouse is built exactly as you envisioned.
Furthermore, 3D renderings can help us identify potential design issues or space limitations early in the process. This proactive approach can save you both time and money by addressing concerns upfront, so there are no surprises when it comes time to build.

SketchUp-powered 3D renderings allow you to visualize your custom playhouse with confidence and excitement, knowing that the final product will be a beautiful and functional addition to your space.

We work closely with each customer to ensure that every detail is perfect, whether it’s a small, charming backyard playhouse or a larger, more elaborate design.
